Toward Understanding Congestion Protection Events on Blue Waters Via Visual Analytics

For a system the scale of Blue Waters it is of primary importance to minimize high-speed network (HSN) congestion. We hypothesize that the ability to analyze the HSN in a system-wide manner will aid in the detection of network traffic patterns thereby providing a clearer picture of HSN congestion. The benefit of this is obvious we want to eliminate, or at lest minimize HSN congestion and have a better chance of doing so with a more complete understanding. To this end we have developed a visual analytics tool for viewing system-wide traffic patterns. Specifically, we employ a simple representation of Blue Waters’ torus network to visually show congested areas of the network. In this work we will describe the development of this tool and demonstrate its potential uses. Keywords-File System
